Beauty Salon Tax Deduction FAQs

What records do I need to keep for my hair salon?
If you purchased something for your hair salon, you need to keep a record of receipt.
Can I make deductions on my styling tools?
Yes! You can include write-offs for hairstylists on cutting and styling tools e.g. curling irons, hair dryers, hair dye, and anything spent on insurance or repairs.
Are tax deductions applicable on clothing?
Although you can’t claim deductions on everyday clothing that you could, say, wear outside of work, you can claim back expenses for work related clothing items including gloves, masks, and aprons. If you offer uniforms for your employees, these could also be expensed. If any of these items need to be properly dry cleaned or repaired, you can also claim reimbursement.
Can I make deductions on continuing education?
Yes! Courses and training that directly relate to your job or improve your skills qualify as beauty salon tax deductions.
Can I make deductions on travel?
Owners can claim travel expenses is if you’re carrying tools or equipment. You’ll need to keep a strict book of your mileage, time, and gas to maximize your write-offs.
